TVC — “Upgrade your plans” (Turo 2019)

After over two years experimenting with TV as a marketing channel — trying both direct response and brand-forward approaches — we were ready to blend the two approaches into a single creative concept, leveraging key performance learnings from the DR spot with the longer-lasting, brand affinity-building methodologies from the brand-forward spots.

Presenting “Upgrade your plans”

Renting a car is a notoriously lackluster experience — you wait in line at the rental counter to get access to whichever “subcompact”, “economy”, or “luxury” car is the flavor of the day, paying hidden fees all the while.

But imagine a world where the car you book could flex with the occasion you’re celebrating — whether you’re heading out on a family vacation, looking to impress a hot date, or bringing your dream drive to fruition. You choose the perfect car for your occasion and your budget, you feel free to enjoy the experience and be yourself.

“Upgrade your plans” takes us along the journey of three folks who are each reckoning with the ups and downs of their daily lives and could use an upgrade to look forward to. They could have a lackluster experience renting a car for their needs — it could be boring, wrought, predictable, which would just heighten the petty frustrations of everyday life  — but instead they upgrade their plans. They book a better car with Turo — the world’s largest car sharing marketplace — where you can find anything, from a tech-forward Tesla to a rugged Jeep.

Suddenly, their world is brighter, spicier, more interesting. They’ve challenged the status quo, and now they live a richer life, a more interesting life, a life in technicolor.
